Woman: And now for some
information about an exciting fashion show here in the town this summer.
The show will be at the History Centre. I guess most of you
know where that is, but for those of you who don’t, it’s behind the town hall.
The show is in July… sorry,
I’ve got the wrong piece of paper here… I mean the show will be on the 1st of August and it’s called
‘Clothes for the Successful Student’. At
the start of the show, you’ll see
some casual but smart shirts and
blouses, just right for those university interviews, and then in the second
half of the show, shoes that are
fashionable and comfortable!
If you’re studying fashion,
tickets are only £6 instead of the normal price of £9. That’s good news for
fashion students!
The clothes in the fashion show
won’t be on sale that day, but you will be able to buy a catalogue of the show to take home with you! Right, now on
to…

Guide: Thank you for
calling the Science Museum Information Line. We have two exciting pieces of
news!
As well as our usual exhibitions at the museum, if you
visit us this month, you can see our latest exhibition which is all about weather. Do you know where the coldest and
hottest places are in the world? You will, if you visit this exhibition in the
science gallery on the first floor. Everything you ever wanted to know about
thunderstorms and windy weather. There are recordings of interviews with the
weather experts and some interesting
videos and photos. Then come and
have lunch in our new café on the fifth floor. Our new menu includes cakes,
sandwiches, salads and an excellent variety of teas, coffees and cold drinks.
Secondly, we are pleased to say
that there will be a student science quiz again this year. There should be 4
people in each team, so find three friends who are good at science and between
the ages of 15 and 18. You can register your team online. The quiz will be just
before the new September term, in the afternoon of August 30th. Group discounts are…

Teacher: Everyone? Please
listen. I want to tell you about our trip next week. Every year, we visit a
museum. Last year, we went to a history museum, but this year it’s the Science Museum in London. There’s an
exhibition on at the moment that I want you to see. It’s about space and I know
many of you would be very interested in it.
We’re
going next Thursday,
so please ask your parents to fill in the travel form and return it to me on
Monday, at the latest. Then I can go and get the travel tickets. The school bus
isn’t big enough, so we’re going by train.
Now
it’s free to get into the museum so you just have to pay £5 for travel and a
bit more for food. That’s £7.50 in total. We’re going to have lunch in the museum restaurant so you don’t need to bring sandwiches. But we
need to walk to the museum from the station so remember to bring your raincoat because it may be a wet day.

Guide: Welcome to
Amersham House. I’m your guide and I’d like to tell you something about the
tour. It will last 45 minutes. There is then a 20-minute talk about the
history of the house. It’s a
beautiful day, so this will be in the garden next to the lake. After the
talk, you may want to go to the café. You can buy hot and cold drinks there,
and also sandwiches and cakes. You will find postcards, books and souvenirs in
the gift shop. It closes at five o’clock
and you will probably need 20 or 30 minutes there. You can see from the map all
the sites with names and specific information. Visitors must stay in the public
areas.
There is a lot to see at
Amersham House and you may want to come back again. There is a special offer in August. Tickets are
usually £5 for students, but they will only be £3.50. Now, let’s begin the
tour.

Presenter: Hi, everybody,
and a big welcome to all our listeners. Let’s start with what’s on in August.
Once again it’s time for Redlands Music Festival. The three days of fun start
on the 23rd and finish on the 25th. That’s Friday to Sunday as usual. This
year, the festival will not take place at Green Park. Instead it will be in Prospect Park. That’s in West Redlands, if
you don’t know it. There are only a few tickets left for the festival so you
have to hurry. You need to phone 730498 to book them. That’s 730498. Or you can
get them from the festival website. The
tickets are quite expensive. Last
year, they were £50 for a day ticket, and this year they’re £2 more, but it’s a
great day out. Remember that group bookings get a 10% discount.
And don’t forget to bring money
for food. There are some fantastic places to eat at the festival. You can also
buy T-shirts, hats and of course a lot
of posters of your favourite bands and singers. Music fans will have a
great time!
