1 Which
boy is Peter?
Girl:
You’ve got a lot of photographs of your family. Who’s this one of?
Boy:
They’re my cousins.
Girl:
So which one is Peter, the one you’re always talking about? This one here?
Boy:
That’s right. He’s standing in the middle because the other two weren’t
speaking to each other that day.
2 Which
day will they go to the cinema?
Boy:
I’d love to see that film about the boy who learns to fly. I think I’ll go on
Thursday. Do you want to come too?
Girl:
I can’t that night – I’m going to play tennis with Dave. How about Tuesday … or
if not, Wednesday?
Boy:
Tuesday night is fine. I can’t on Wednesday. I’ll see you outside the cinema at
seven then.
Girl:
OK!
3 What
are they going to do on Saturday?
Boy:
Come to the beach on Saturday.
Girl:
I’d like to, but I must finish some work for the History lesson on Monday.
Boy:
Haven’t you heard? There are no classes on Monday because of the football
match.
Girl:
Oh great! I’ll go with you then. My next History lesson isn’t until Friday.
4 Where
does Paul live?
Boy:
I’m going to Paul’s house to watch a video. He’s living in our street now.
Woman:
In the house that was for sale? Number thirty-two?
Boy:
The one next to it, thirty-three. And Kevin from school is coming to live here
too, at number thirty-one.
Woman:
All your friends in the same street … I’ll never see you!
5 Where
are they going to put the computer?
Boy:
Can I have the new computer in my bedroom, Mum?
Woman:
It’s for all the family to use, so we really need it downstairs. What about
putting it in the kitchen?
Boy:
It gets very hot in there. The living room is nicer.
Woman:
Well, it’s noisy when the television is on, but we can try it there.

1 What
are the boys going to do?
Boy:
Let’s go fishing. You never want to play football unless there’s a lot of
people. And it’s too hot to play tennis, isn’t it?
Friend:
I don’t think so. If we play in the park, we can go and get a drink in the café
there afterwards.
Boy:
Well, all right … but I don’t want to play for long.
Friend:
OK. It’ll be fun, you’ll see, and fishing is boring anyway.
2 Which
tent does the girl choose?
Man:
This tent’s very nice – it’s big enough to stand up in.
Girl:
But I need one that I can carry.
Man:
This round one’s for three people, and not too heave. And this one here is for
two people, so it’s even lighter.
Girl:
Oh, that’ll be best. I’m travelling alone but the extra space will be nice.
3 Which
one is Ruth’s bike?
Girl:
I’m taking your bike to the library, Ruth. Is that all right?
Friend:
Fine. You can use the bag on the back to put your books in.
Girl:
Yours has got a water bottle too, hasn’t it? I don’t want to take the wrong
one.
Friend:
That’s right.
4 What
does Sarah’s dad do?
Boy:
Are your mum and dad both doctors, Sarah? I saw them in the hospital together
yesterday.
Girl:
Only my mum is. My dad was a cook, but he works for the hospital now. He drives
an ambulance.
Boy:
That’s nice for them, to work in the same place.
Girl:
Yes, my dad is much happier now.
5 Which
picture is the woman asking about?
Woman:
You have some lovely pictures for sale. Can you tell me who painted the one in
your window? It’s very good.
Man:
The oil painting of the Swiss mountains?
Woman:
That’s beautiful, but I meant the one below it.
Man:
Oh, the summer flowers – that’s by George Anderson. Look, there’s a picture of
him here in this art magazine.

1 What
must the man turn off?
Woman:
Let’s go or we’ll be late. Did you turn off the lights upstairs?
Man:
Yes, but wait a minute – I can hear the radio in the kitchen.
Woman:
Oh dear. That’s the television. I was watching the news. Can you go and turn it
off and I’ll start the car?
Man:
OK.
2 Where’s
the girl’s pen?
Girl:
Where’s my blue pen? I’m sure I put it in my bag.
Boy:
Oh, sorry. I used it to do my homework and I left it on the table in the
kitchen.
Girl:
I can’t see it.
Boy:
Oh, I know, it’s by the phone – I used it again to take a message and forgot to
put it back in your bag. I’ll get it for you.
3 What
will the boy do this evening?
Woman:
Are you going to practise your guitar with your friends here this evening?
Boy:
Matthew’s playing in a football match tonight so we’re going to do it tomorrow.
Woman:
Will you wash the car for me then? It’s very dirty.
Boy:
Sorry, Mum, I’m going to go and watch Matthew play. I’ll do the car for you at
the weekend.
4 What
animals did they see on their holiday?
Man:
Did you see any monkeys when you were on holiday in Kenya?
Woman:
Lots of them! But we weren’t so lucky with the lions.
Man:
Oh, that’s a pity! What about elephants?
Woman:
Not this time, but we’re going back next year so maybe we’ll see some elephants
then.
5 What
does the man want to buy?
Man:
Do you think this sweater will look nice with my jacket?
Woman:
The colour isn’t quite right. What about that lovely blue shirt over there?
Man:
It is nice, but I’ve got lots of shirts already. I need something warm to wear
under my jacket.
Woman:
Well, let’s look in another shop then.

1 Which
day is the man’s appointment?
Man:
I’d like to make an appointment to see Dr Owen tomorrow morning, please.
Woman:
That’s Thursday. He’s not free at all tomorrow. What about Friday afternoon? If
not, it will have to be Monday morning.
Man:
I can’t come any afternoon. I suppose I’ll have to have the morning appointment
then.
Woman:
OK, we’ll see you at nine. What’s your …
2 What
is the woman going to eat?
Man:
I’m going to have chicken and salad. What would you like?
Woman:
Um, the soup looks good, but the weather’s a bit too warm for anything hot.
Man:
Why don’t you have sandwiches?
Woman:
They don’t look very nice. I think I’ll have the same as you.
3 Which
train will the woman take?
Woman:
When is the next train to Ashford?
Man:
I’m afraid you’re just too late for the eleven thirty. The next one is twelve
forty-five, but you’ll have to change trains. The two fifteen is quicker
because it goes straight to Ashford.
Woman:
I don’t mind changing trains – I’ll have a return ticket, please.
Man:
There you are.
4 How
much did the man pay for the camera?
Man:
I’ve bought a new camera.
Woman:
It looks expensive. Cameras like that cost about a hundred and fifty pounds,
don’t they?
Man:
This was a hundred and seventy-five pounds but the man in the shop took fifteen
pounds off the price because it was in the shop window and there was no box for
it.
Woman:
A hundred and sixty pounds is still a lot of money. I hope it takes good
pictures!
5 Which
race did the girl win?
Girl:
Were you at the sports competition on Saturday?
Boy:
Yes. I saw you come first in your bicycle race. But your best sport is
swimming, isn’t it?
Girl:
Yes – but I was second in that. Next year I’m going to try running in the eight
hundred metres too.
Boy:
Wow! You are good at sports!
